There are a selection of special printing techniques available for customers who are interested in having their printed products apart from the ordinary masses. One of the most popular based on its high impact, affordability, and flexibility is spot UV printing.

UV coating can be applied to the whole page, or just to certain parts – a procedure generally referred to as “spot” UV coating. Drying happens immediately when the varnished areas are exposed to UV light, which is why the spot UV application can achieve such a high level of precision.

Artwork for spot UV

Firstly, you’ll have to decide whether or not you will require Spot UV for one side of the business card or for both sides. If your business card will only have Spot UV on one side, you should have a total of three files (front print, back print, front spot uv mask). Having Spot UV on both sides of the business card should have a total of four files (front print, back print, front spot uv mask, back spot uv mask). These Spot UV masks must be on a WHITE background and the Spot UV selection must be filled with 100% K (black).
